What is A Comic Eye, A New Blog with Insights on Comics and the Industry

By Jacob Malewitz

A Comic Eye is celebrating it’s next beginning here, with a new blog to find news, reviews, insights, and articles on the graphic novel industry. X-Men have a new movie. Avengers have a hit graphic novel coming out. Batman is hiding a new story. And even Superman is winning with a bestselling graphic novel being re-released. You need to know the next hit comic coming out, what writers are releasing what, and how to understand the fascinating modern and past states of the graphic novel industry.

Welcome aboard.  A Comic Eye is a new blog showcasing new writing with insights into the industry, reviews of books, interviews with writers, and hot news you may want to know.

What can you do to get started understanding the comic book industry?

Who are the best writers in the comic industry?

What will A Comic Eye show that is different?

How can lowly writers earn money writing comics?

How can you understand the modern comic book industry? From the modern inception of heroes in the modern world, we’ve always had questions, answers, and heroes trying to solve problems. Take your next step. Jump into comics, or read more of the fun issues from your youth or jump into the modern comic book industry as a new reader or writer. Where would your eye go in a comic book shop? Would you pick up the most expensive book, would you buy, would you talk to the clerk for the next fun try to read? These are questions A Comic Eye can show and answer.

What makes A Comic Eye different? Technically, this blog was originally started by me Jacob Malewitz almost ten years ago. I wanted to showcase reviews of new and old comics, interview writers, and show new insights into the comic book industry. I love reading, and since my youth I have had a vast interest in comic books and graphic novels. I’ve even read books on comic book history and how to begin in the comic book industry as a writer. Remember, writers have homes for their talent across the world and across the industry, so maybe study some books on comic book writing or read my blog for ideas and jump into the industry.

The best writers in the industry are found sometimes by luck and sometimes by research. Understand good writing, and you’ll understand how to read books written by genius writers. Try your hand at Warren Ellis, like I did, who did genius writing for Transmetropolitan in the past decades. Understand fascinating writers like Neil Gaiman, who reinvented myth with Sandman. See the next Stephen King jump with The Dark Tower adaptation of his fantasy novel series done in comic book format. Understand the history of the industry with Les Daniels Marvels, where you can see how the publisher Marvel began in the early century (Les Daniels technically did a history on DC Comics too).

A Comic Eye will take a broad and close look at the industry. I want to see where your eye wanders and what you may like. I want to show bestsellers and hidden gems to read in the graphic arts. I will also show the recent industry in comic book writing, like creating your own series in comic book format and how you can make this a career. First of all, reviews, interviews, and commentary, but also remember if you’re an artist, you can try writing pages of comic fiction.

Writers can earn in the comic book world with talent. But for the rest of us, remember A Comic Eye for ideas on the publishing world, what you should read, and where to begin. Thanks.

The Modern Day Comic Book Hero, A New Article for Super Fans, on A Comic Eye

The Modern Day Comic Book Hero By Jacob Malewitz We’ve all heard it: I want to be famous or I want to be rich. You don’t hear them saying I want to be a super hero that many times. But for the modern idea, who is the modern hero of the comic book world? What do heroes do in comic books that is different from other fiction? And who are the modern heroes of today? Get Real, How Heroes Started  Heroes in comic book fiction may have started in the 1930s with Marvel and DC starting to break out the modern day comic book hero as we know. Superman in simple, or a character similar and still known, is perhaps of your earliest and most successful modern day heroes. A hero from another planet, powers beyond the mortal man, and who had a hero side and a “I’m Clark Kent” side. He was a hero who started in Action Comics, and was big success for the youth movement of comics in the golden age. There were pulp heroes before that, for example like Tarzan and Conan. However, Superman is your earliest o
